5 Reformer Pilates Tips for Beginners
Stepping into your first reformer class can feel a little daunting: springs, straps, a moving carriage! The good news is that everyone starts somewhere. These five tips will help you feel confident from day one.
1. Arrive a Few Minutes Early
Give yourself time to meet your instructor, mention any injuries and get familiar with the machine. Your teacher can show you how to adjust the footbar, headrest and springs before class begins.
2. Wear the Right Kit
Choose fitted, stretchy clothing that lets your instructor see your alignment, and don't forget your grip socks. Most studios require them, and they'll keep your feet secure on the footbar and carriage.
3. Focus on Your Breath
Breathing is at the heart of Pilates. Inhale to prepare and exhale as you move through the effort. Steady breathing helps you engage your core and keeps every movement smooth and controlled.
4. Slow Is Strong
Reformer Pilates isn't about speed. Moving slowly with control builds strength and stability far more effectively than rushing through the reps. Quality always beats quantity.
5. Be Consistent
Aim for two or three classes a week to start seeing and feeling the benefits: better posture, a stronger core and more flexibility. Progress comes with practice, so enjoy the journey.
